Vicki grew up in Southern California. She attended college and studied education, music and early childhood development. During these years, she worked as an assistant preschool teacher, a reading tutor to elementary aged children, and a nanny. After she met her husband and they married in ‘97, they relocated to Nashville (after spending one year in Iowa). She has lived, raised her children and attended births here in middle Tennessee for over 20 years.

Shortly after she and her husband married, they were excited to find out they were expecting their first child. They researched and read, and felt the best about having a home birth. They hired a midwife and doula and had a great experience at home laboring. But, a long labor and some uncertainties caused them to relocate to the hospital. Despite trying “all the things” this birth ended in a caesarean. Although this was not what they had planned, they were happy that their birth team supported them so well, through it all.

“I feel for the person who really wanted a vaginal birth and ended up with a caesarean. I have walked this road and I know it can be tough.”

Vicki was determined to attempt a vaginal birth with her second and found a midwife in Nashville that supported that plan. She had a successful VBAC in 2000! The next seven years their family experienced the blessings of new babies (3), but, also the heartache of four pregnancies ending in miscarriage; and the realization that each pregnancy and birth is unique with it’s own story.

Vicki realized in 2013 that being a doula is what she was really passionate about.  Even though she already had experience, she knew she wanted to be trained and certified. In 2014 she was professionally trained and began a career path to become a doula through the organization DONA International. She went on to get certified through DONA, and also trained through their postpartum program. Vicki is an original member of the Nashville Doula Services team and came on as a co-owner in 2017.

Since becoming a doula, Vicki has passionately supported hundreds of clients in birth and postpartum. Her many years of hands-on experience coupled with her own unique births, have helped her to empathize and relate with her clients. Apart from running Nashville Doula Services and sister company Harbor Birth Institute, Vicki enjoys serving her doula clients, cooking, taking in concerts with her husband Danny (and kids), getting out in nature, watching movies, singing, reading and loving on her family.

Vicki is Mom to 5 wonderful children ranging in age from 14 to 23, and has been married for 25 years to the love of her life. Vicki and her husband also have had the unique privilege of helping to raise a little girl, since she was an infant. Vicki is also a Grandmother of 2.

“Some of the greatest joys I’ve experienced in my life as a doula, are attending multiple births for repeat clients and being the doula for my son and his wife, as they welcomed their son.”

"Vicki was amazing and such a critical part of my successful unmedicated birth.  My only regret is that I didn't ask her to come in to the hospital sooner.  I was managing my pain fine so I told her to hold off because I thought it was going to be a while.  She finally decided on her own to head in which I am so grateful for because once I got to a 5, my labor escalated very quickly and I was so thankful she was there!  If I ever decide to have another baby, I will definitely want Vicki to be my doula again!  I should also mention that my backup doula (Elizabeth) was excellent as well even though I didn't need her on the big day."

"I had a very hard, long, birth process that went nothing like I would have wanted or planned. I was emotionally and physically exhausted and Vicki not only was by my side for the whole thing but was also by my husbands. We could have never endured what we had, if it wasn't for her constant reassurance and support. During postpartum she genuinely taught me how to be a mom. It’s amazing how the most common tasks all of a sudden become so overwhelming with a new baby. She showed me simple things like- how to help my baby sleep independently, how to plan ahead for meals, and how to nourish myself. She even got me in contact with resources in the community to help me process my birth experience. Vicki also did a few overnight visits, and after her visits I felt like I had skills to help my baby sleep better at night!  I will forever be grateful for the support she provided to me and my new family!"
