Sarah grew up just south of Nashville in Shelbyville, Tennessee. She has always had the desire to serve children and families. From a young age she served families both locally and globally doing mission work. In high school she worked with children in after school programs, and worked as a nanny throughout college.

Many life experiences eventually lead her down the path of becoming a social worker. Empowering and educating others is something Sarah feels very passionate about, and it wasn’t until she hired a doula for her first pregnancy that she realized the choices she had for her labor. She became enthralled with the entire birth process and felt very called to help other mamas understand their options as well, so they too can make informed decisions. Sarah also loved the support she was given throughout her labor and the way her doula empowered her husband to feel more confident and supportive through the entire birth process.

Sarah began her journey to becoming a doula after the birth of her first son. Her solo practice Empowered Beginnings was formed, and she has enjoyed serving families ever since. It is her desire to support the birth of each individual mother, and to inform couples of their options so they can make an educated decision together about the vision for their birth.

Sarah is certified as a labor and birth doula through Harbor Birth Institute, (formerly McDoula) and is certified in Spinning Babies techniques.

Aside from her work as a doula, Sarah is happily married to her high school sweet heart, and is the mother of Ellis (4), Eyan(2) and Eames (born Fall 2019). She enjoys live music, food trucks, singing, learning about holistic medicinal alternatives, mission work, and spending time with her family.

“I truly can’t say enough about Sarah. She was my saving grace through my pregnancy, labor and delivery. After going into false labor two times before the real deal, I was ready to meet my baby boy! Sarah was a constant support and even came to my rescue the third time I started going into labor to help be sure it didn’t stall again. We did exercises and stretches to help my labor pick up and before I knew it we were on our way to the hospital. Sarah got there shortly after we did and was such a blessing to both my husband and I. Since this was our first baby and I had full intent on a natural birth, neither of us knew what to expect. Sarah helped explain and make sense of each stage of labor. She was not only a physical support as I labored but a mental support. It was almost as if I had an angel there with me. She just knew what to do and when I needed something, sometimes even before I knew. I was in labor a total of 29 hours from start to finish and it was by far the hardest thing I have ever done in my life. Without Sarah, I truly don’t think I would have been able to have the delivery I wanted. She made sure all of my needs were met and gave me an over all sense of security. She also helped my husband to know just what to do. We love her and will forever appreciate all of her kindness and support! She will definitely be my doula for future babies.” - Alysha W
